Two new dementia risks identified by major report
Treating failing eyesight and high cholesterol are two new ways to lower the risk of dementia developing, a major report suggests. Scientists have now identified 14 health issues which, if reduced or eliminated, could theoretically prevent nearly half of dementias in the world.

GVS offers short and long term rental space in three Vale based buildings
Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) supports community and charitable organisations operating in the Vale of Glamorgan and manages three buildings which have space available to rent. The buildings based in Llantwit Major are CF61 (hourly rental) or Illtud House (office space rental) and in Penarth we have St Pauls (hourly rental) with all spaces affordably priced.
RNID survey into hearing loss support in Cardiff and the Vale
A survey is currently live, organised by RNID, the aim of which is to assess the support available to people living in Cardiff and the Vale who wear hearing aids of think that they might be losing their hearing. The survey is live until the 2nd September.
STI Cases Climb in Wales: Increases in Gonorrhea and Syphilis Reported
Data from the latest Sexual Health Trends in Wales report reveals a rise in gonorrhoea and syphilis cases across Wales. The number of gonorrhoea diagnoses jumped by 27% in 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 5,292 cases. Similarly, syphilis diagnoses saw a 20% increase, with 507 cases reported, marking a 17% rise from the previous peak in 2019.

NCI St. Donat’s Bay are Recruiting Volunteers
NCI St Donat’s Bay station is currently appealing to the local community who may be interested in applying to volunteer approximately 20 hours per month at the NCI St Donat’s Bay Coastwatch station from September 2024. Volunteers will receive all the training they need to become fully qualified NCI Watchkeepers.
