Cyfle Cymru: Empowering Communities Through Opportunities and Support

July 2024 Update

At Cyfle Cymru, our mission is to provide comprehensive support and opportunities for individuals seeking to improve their lives and eventually enter the workforce. We serve a diverse range of individuals, including those recovering from substance misuse and/or mental health issues, those with criminal records, and young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Our goal is to help these individuals knock down the barriers to employment, gain confidence, develop skills, and the long game is to achieve sustainable employment.

Youth Engagement: 16-18 Summer Project

Our summer project for NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) individuals aged 16-18 starts the week commencing August 19th. This initiative provides young people with valuable skills, experiences, and pathways to future employment.

Activities include:

- Awareness Sessions: Informative sessions that cover various topics such as County lines, knife crime, Bleed kit and substance use sessions

- Activities: Hands-on activities such as MMA, Music with Sound progression, Peer Stories and paddleboarding.

- Training and Employment Opportunities: Direct pathways to employment and training opportunities, by partners such as ITEC, Cardiff City Football Club (CCFC), and the British Army

Qualifications in First Aid and Food Hygiene will be gained during the week.

Collaborations and Partnerships

We believe in the power of collaboration to amplify our impact. Some of our recent and ongoing partnerships include:

- HMYOI Werrington: We recently received a wonderful batch of tie-dyed socks made by young people at HMYOI Werrington. These socks have been a great conversation starter and symbol of creativity and hard work.

- St. Giles Trust/National Trust Opportunity: We have established a referral pathway into opportunities at Aberdulais Falls, providing our participants with unique work experience in a historic and natural setting.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities

We offer a variety of events and activities to engage our participants and support their development:

- IHASCO Drop-ins: Every other Thursday, we host IHASCO drop-in sessions providing training and support.

- MMA Drop-in with Fighting Homelessness: Every Monday, we collaborate with Fighting Homelessness to offer mixed martial arts sessions.

- Daily Activities with Phoenix Heroes: We have daily activities organized with Phoenix Heroes, providing consistent engagement and support for our participants.
