NCI St. Donat’s Bay are Recruiting Volunteers

ABOUT NCI ST DONAT’S BAY

NCI St Donat’s Bay is located within the BP building fronting the beach at St Donat’s Bay. Since opening for watchkeeping in 2021 NCI St. Donat’s Bay volunteers have logged over 10,000 hours of watches, logged over 8,000 vessels and has been involved in initiating or assisting the Coastguard in 15 incidents.

The aim of the NCI St Donat’s Bay station is to provide safety, support and advice to coastal users at St Donat’s and surrounding communities. The station aims to provide education to the community and students at the College on nautical knowledge, search and rescue and accident prevention. Volunteers often gain valuable friendships and bonds with the community whilst enjoying volunteering as a watchkeeper to keep the local community safe

 

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY

NCI St Donat’s Bay station is currently appealing to the local community who may be interested in applying to volunteer approximately 20 hours per month at the NCI St Donat’s Bay Coastwatch station from September 2024. Volunteers will receive all the training they need to become fully qualified NCI Watchkeepers.

Timelines

·       Application sifts - 9th August 2024

·       Informal interviews, meet the crew - mid August 2024 (dates to be confirmed)

·       Try Out Watches at the station (you can make sure it is for you before committing) - August and September 2024

·       If successful, your training starts - October 2024
