You’re invited to the Guarantee Our Essentials Campaign launch – Monday 30th September

My name is Matthew Stevens, and I am a Trussell Trust campaign coordinator (based in Taff Ely Foodbank but working with foodbanks and communities across RCT, Bridgend, and the Vale of Glamorgan). I am working on a campaign created by Trussell Trust and Joseph Rowntree Foundation - Guarantee our Essentials - which seeks to encourage the government to reform universal credit in a way that stops it from forcing people from having to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families. The fact that UC does not cover the essentials has pushed thousands of people deeper into poverty and has caused a massive increase in foodbank use, something we are very passionate about reducing.

In this role, I am trying to make this campaign community driven, by bringing together local campaigners, charities and community organisations, and people with lived experiences of hardship to make the campaign as broad and (hopefully) successful as possible. I have organised a campaign launch event for the 30th September in Barry, click here for the details. We would really appreciate local groups joining the campaign or using their own platforms to encourage people to get involved.

If you have any questions about the campaign or need more information, please contact Matthew Stevens, Campaign Co-ordinator, Taff-Ely Foodbank
