StreetLife Volunteer Outreach Project

The main purpose of the evening outreach support volunteer aged 18+ is to support staff to reach out and engage with clients; providing emotional and practical support as well as motivational support for longer term engagement.

The evening outreach service is led by StreetLife Project staff and supported by our team of trained volunteers and representation from partnership agencies.

Outreach Aims

  • Reach out and engage with people who are impacted by sex work and victims of sexual exploitation, who are often a hidden population who do not necessarily access mainstream service

  • Build and sustain ongoing trusting relationship to facilitate access to a wide range of services

  • Provide a wide range of front-line harm reduction, information, health and other initiatives/services

  • Facilitate improvements in health and well-being and reduce the risks associated with sex work

  • Advertise and promote wider services offered by the project

  • Provide a referral and support gateway to other services

  • Identify cases of sexual exploitation of young people and other forms of exploitation, provide appropriate support, and make appropriate referrals and interventions.

Main Duties:

  • To provide practical and emotional support to clients

  • To provide support to the outreach support workers

  • Report any relevant information as appropriate to the project

  • To ensure health and safety procedures are followed

  • To ensure procedures and guidelines are followed

  • To complete any monitoring forms as required.

Time commitment: The nature of the project is to provide a regular outreach service.  We ask that volunteers give a minimum commitment to the project of one evening per fortnight.  Safer Wales requires a minimum commitment of six months to the project. 
Expenses reimbursed: Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Training: All StreetLife Outreach volunteers receive induction training. The aim of the training is to prepare volunteers for outreach. Following induction all volunteer positions are subject to three-month probationary period. Once recruited, the Outreach Volunteer Assistant will receive regular support sessions and supervision. Support will also be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and Project Manager as and when needed.
Selection procedure: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
