Supporting Adults Affected by a Terminal illness
We are looking for volunteers aged 18+ to join our team to offer ongoing emotional support to adults who are affected by a terminal illness. This could be those who are terminally ill themselves, their family, friends, carers or those who have been bereaved.
This role helps to support people who have contacted Marie Curie through our national Support Line. As a Check-in and Chat volunteer you will be matched with an individual to offer them emotional support and a chance to chat freely about how they’re feeling once a week for up to 30 minutes at a time. Training and support will be provided.
You will need:
A quiet and confidential space for working, away from distraction or interruption
Access to a smartphone, laptop or desktop computer
Available at the same time every week to enable us to match you with someone
Willingness to participate in continued training and learning
Time commitment: Suggested time commitment of 30 minutes once a week, negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
Training: Full training and support is provided.
Selection procedure: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
