Vacancies for Board members at the Memo Arts Centre

We are continuing to develop the Memo Arts Centre as an environment in which to create, to participate, to celebrate and to enjoy a broad programme, a place to play and to be part of.  For more information, please see our website at www.memorialhalltheatre.co.uk.

We seek to maintain a diverse and multi-skilled Board to help with the governance, finance, and support our strategic development. As we deliver our strategic plan and face the challenge of Covid 19, we are actively looking for new members to join the Board.

Your role will be to oversee the governance of the Memo Arts Centre and to be responsible for overseeing the financial and legislative management and administration of the charity in order that the Memo continues to run effectively.

As a Trustee you will accept collective responsibility for the activities of the Memo, with your role being one of governance, leadership and direction.  You must be focused on the strategic direction of the Memo and need not be involved the day-to-day running of the organisation, but you will share our passion for the Charity’s aims and recognise the important part played by our dedicated staff.

The Board of Trustees is collectively responsible and accountable for ensuring that the Charity is performing well, remains solvent and complies with all its charitable obligations. You must fully understand your role as a Trustee before making a commitment. To safeguard both existing and new Trustees, the Memo is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, so that Trustees are usually personally safeguarded from the financial liabilities the charity incurs.

Other Duties:

In addition, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge and experience which they have to help the Board of Trustees. This may involve:

  • Acting as an ambassador for the Memo, using and developing contacts and personal networks

  • Providing guidance on new initiatives

  • Other issues in which the Trustee has special expertise.

All Trustees must be willing to accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee as set out by the Charity Commission. The Charities Act disqualifies people from being a Trustee if they have unspent convictions for offences involving deception or dishonesty; are un-discharged bankrupts; have been removed from the Trusteeship of another charity because of misconduct; or have failed to make payments under court administration orders. Further information can be found in the Charity Commission’s “Guidance for Trustees.” www.charitycommission.gov.uk
