Tele-Friend Service

Are you empathetic and a good listener?

We are looking for Tele-Friend volunteers to help with our befriending service, to make a weekly uplifting call to someone affected by cancer in need of company.

A 20 minute phone call on a weekly basis (or as agreed) can make a huge difference to someone’s day and greatly reduce the impact of isolation.  As a telephone befriender, we will put you in touch with someone to share an uplifting chat.  This person may be one of our supporters, a service user or another volunteer someone looking for a friendly voice, a listening ear, regular contact, just for a chat.

This role can be carried out from your own home and you can use your own telephone.  Volunteers will be able to claim back any expenses for their phone calls made.  You can give as much or as little time as you like and we can agree on a routine with your tele-friend/s.  It is important that you can make a commitment to the agreement, as we don’t want to disappoint people.  We would ask that, if you are unable to commit to your agreed routine, you let us know as soon as possible.

Time commitment:  A suggested time commitment can be as little as 20 minutes, weekly/fortnightly etc. whatever is agreed.
Expenses reimbursed: Telephone expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided: Full training is provided.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion and 2 references and where required a DBS check (cost met by organisation).
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact us using the form below.
