Sense Active Project

Here at SENSE in Wales we now have the ‘Sense Active Project’ which is targeting increased sport & physical activity for individuals with complex disabilities, including multi & single sensory impairments. As part of this programme, we offer a number of free training workshops to increase the provision of sensory activities across the community. These workshops are suitable for support staff, third sector orgs, community groups, leisure centre staff, teachers, coaches. Anyone who would like to increase their offer of more inclusive sport and activity for individuals with disabilities.

·       Sensory Walks - we are running a workshop in August which can be booked here: Playwaze - View Event

·       Sensory Football – more information on this workshop can be found here: Sensory football workshop - Sense to book please contact me direct on lauren.heath@sense.org.uk

We also offer an accredited workshop; Connecting Differently Through Sport. Again this is aimed at people in a range of different roles, the workshop is useful for PE teachers, health and social care organisations or charities, sports development professionals and leisure centre staff, including front of house staff. This workshop will increase your awareness, teach you specialist skills and build your confidence when supporting disabled people to access sport. Some outcomes of the workshop include:

  • Understand the different disabilities a participant may have – and how these may affect someone taking part in a sport and physical activity session.

  • Learn about the barriers to participation that people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities face – as well as solutions to overcome them.

  • Understand how to communicate with people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities using a range of communication methods

  • Feel more confident to adapt a sport and physical activity session to make it more accessible to all.
