Join the crew: Challenge Wales Seeks Handy Volunteers To Keep Their Vessel Shipshape

Are you a DIY enthusiast with a knack for prepping, priming and painting? Do you find joy in sewing and fixing things up? Do you like tinkering and helping to keep things running? If so, the outdoor education sail training charity, Challenge Wales, needs you as one of their maintenance volunteers!

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Challenge Wales. With the sail training season now over, the real work begins to maintain Challenge Wales and ensure she’s ready for the next season.

Many maintenance tasks are unskilled and can be completed with some training and support from the Skipper. However, if you have specialist expertise in plumbing, engineering, electronics or carpentry, Challenge Wales would love to hear from you.

Vicky Williams, Co-Founder and Business Development Manager said “Volunteering with Challenge Wales is a fantastic way to meet like-minded people, learn or hone maintenance skills, and can be a pathway to becoming one of our volunteer crew. You don’t need any experience with boats to get involved, although anyone with boat maintenance skills is encouraged to get in touch.”.

Challenge Wales is looking for maintenance volunteers from October to March each year. While most activities take place in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, some maintenance activities in 2025 from February – March will take place in Gosport near Portsmouth.
