Invisible Walls Helpline Volunteer

Volunteers aged 18+ are required to provide information, guidance and support for families and friends and prisoners through the PSF helpline; and providing face-to-face support for prisoners and their families.
 Key Tasks

  • To provide telephone support, information and guidance to the families and friends with a person residing at HMP & YOI Parc

  • To provide telephone family support for prisoners residing in HMP & YOI Parc

  • To provide support for prisoners and their visitors during the domestic visit where requested

  • To provide face to face support with prisoners regarding family issues such as child contact, relationship breakdown, social services involvement etc.

  • To liaise with internal departments and external agencies to resolve problems faced and queries posed

  • To familiarise oneself with relevant information and policies in place at HMP & YOI Parc, and to adhere to such rules and regulations

  • To record all contact with prisoners, family members and other departments or organisations

Time commitment: A suggested weekly time is 3 hours, negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided:  In order to fulfil this role, training will be provided by the prison service.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation) and Home Office vetting.
