121 Dementia Support & Group Activities Support

We provide support for people living with dementia and their carers in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

You could be involved in: 

Supporting people living with dementia on a 1:1 basis. Completing meaningful activities with those living with dementia for example: walking round the local park; visiting the cinema; visiting favourite places.

Group work:  We run sessions in care homes, community centres, day centres for people living with dementia. Sessions run for 10 weeks, we complete activities such as: painting; card making; cake decorating; quizzes.

Volunteers will need to be friendly, kind and patient.

We ask a commitment that volunteers will stick to the same time and day each week for the routine of the person living with dementia. Visits last anywhere from 1.5 – 2 hours weekly.

Time commitment: Group sessions last for between 1.5 – 2 hours and they run for 10 consecutive weeks.  We ask a commitment to attend all 10 sessions.
Expenses reimbursed: Reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided:  Induction, Dementia Friends training, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy training, Reminiscing Training and regular supervision sessions.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion , 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
