Helping those who have Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Conditions, are Elderly or Homeless

The 30+ projects we run allow volunteers to contribute to their local community by working with those who have learning disabilities, mental health conditions, are elderly or homeless.

Our volunteers also work with our partners on initiatives aiming to make South Wales a greener and safer environment.  We work in many areas including hospitals, schools, farms and community centres.
Here are a few of the projects that you can help with.

Befriending: The role of the volunteer aged 18+ is to befriend an adult with disabilities and/or mental health conditions.
The role of the volunteer is to befriend a beneficiary by doing a range of weekly activities.  These can include anything from going to the cinema, day trips, arts and crafts, going for a meal, you name it!  The costs of all activities are covered by the organisation.

You will be paired with a beneficiary based on shared interests within your community.  Each volunteer will support a beneficiary by meeting them each week.

Be Friends:  Be Friends is a befriending project for children and young people aged 5-18 years old, with a physical and/or learning disability. We are currently recruiting volunteers aged 18+ who are available to work on the project in Cardiff.

The aim of the project is to enable the children to have fun and access exciting activities in their home or local community. It helps the children to develop personal and educational skills and social relationships. It also provides essential respite for the family members.

Volunteers go in pairs to visit their matched child or young person for 2-3 hours each week, usually at a set time arranged with the family. Enjoy activities such as the cinema, trampolining, bowling or going for food – the only limitations are your imagination! The costs of all activities are covered by the organisation.

Huggard Homeless Centre – Social Club: - As volunteers aged 18+, you will be involved in running a range of activities for the clients at the centre. We encourage volunteers to run sessions inspired by personal skills and interests, these could include: karaoke, games, pamper sessions, arts & crafts, playing sports, tea & coffee afternoons, etc.

Time commitment:  Days and hours vary for each volunteering opportunity and are negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed: Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Training provided: Full training is provided.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation)
