GVS, Volunteering and Volunteers’ Week 2022 - How we celebrated
GVS celebrated Volunteers’ Week in a variety of ways this year.
We hosted some events in Llantwit Major and Penarth, the first since 2019. Inviting organisations to promote their opportunities and recruit volunteers. A flurry of organisations registered straight away
This also gave them a chance to network, something that has been sorely missed during covid amid the changed ways of working. Footfall was good and a number of volunteers have since engaged in volunteering.
We promoted all aspects of volunteering at Barry Library. A number of enquiries were made, asking about organisations and types of volunteering available
We recognised and thanked the many GVS volunteers who cover driving, social media, emergency response, gardening and food share for their continued contribution to volunteering
We published some press releases about Volunteers’ Week raising the profile
We promoted some good news volunteering stories via social media and Bro Radio. These were from both organisations about the value of volunteers and volunteers about their experience of volunteering
However, once again, using the cream of the crop - social media, by promoting Volunteers’ Week, the recognition of volunteers and volunteering a whopping 9, 518 people were reached via social media. What a fantastic tool social media really is!
