GVS volunteer gardeners continuing their inspiring transformation

The gardening project volunteers from Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS) continues to excel and make a huge difference to CF61 and Illtud House in Llantwit Major.

The dedicated volunteers have recently been working on the seating and planters in the shared courtyard at Illtud House, where tenants of the building can enjoy the outside space.

GVS has welcomed donations of mint, camomile and other herbs to the area which, when established, can be used to make herbal teas. The volunteers are also going to add different salad leaves that can be added to people’s lunches.

The willow fencing and arches around the communal garden area have started to grow and look amazing for visitors and local people to enjoy.

With the help of ValePlus and students from Atlantic College, broad beans, garlic, potatoes, onions, shallots and beetroot have been planted which will all be added to the weekly Foodshare operating from CF61.

GVS is extremely grateful to its gardening volunteers who have worked tirelessly in all conditions throughout the year to transform a run-down area of unused land into an idyllic, beautiful area which the public can enjoy.

If you would like to help with our gardening project, come along to Illtud House on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30pm. For more information please contact Cath Haines, Volunteer Co-ordinator cath@gvs.wales
