Foodshare Llantwit to continue through the summer holidays
Foodshare Llantwit is a project based in the CF61 building that aims to help tackle food waste. We collect end of day waste from local supermarkets, and pay for a small amount of pre-supermarket surplus waste. This waste is then all laid out in a shop-like manner for people to come and collect and use rather than it heading to a bin. It is amazing to be able to provide this service to people, helping both them and the planet in one go.
The Foodshare has been steadily growing over the last few months. The word has been spreading throughout the local community of Llantwit Major and surrounding areas and it is great to see everyone coming together to help stop food waste. We love the community that is building, and through our online channels, people are starting to share the way in which the food we have provided has been used at their dinner tables; this is something that we hope to encourage through recipe sharing and recipe cards.
As things are growing we are looking to move to a membership scheme, where for a small weekly sum, users will be able to access a greater supply of longer life Supermarket surplus waste aside from the current end of day waste that we have. We are really excited to see how the Foodshare can continue to grow and develop over the next few months.
As for the summer, we just want to let you all know that we are open as usual, there will be no break so please continue to come and use us. As the kids will be at home more, it may be even more valuable to get that additional food that we can offer to your weekly supply!
