Community Garden at Riverside Health Centre shortlisted for award featured on The One Show

Grow Well community garden at Riverside Health Centre featured on BBC The One Show this week, following being shortlisted for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and One Show ‘Growing Together Award’ for community gardening.

The garden is used by the local community in the heart of Riverside, and everything in the garden reflects what people locally have told the Grow Cardiff team they want to grow.

As well as visitors to Riverside Health Centre stopping by to enjoy the garden, local GPs also refer patients there.

Rachel, lead volunteer at the community garden, said: “I was stuck at home, I was isolated, my anxiety.. I couldn’t even go out of the door.

“Once my GP had referred me to here, it was just like instant magic. It gave me confidence and to believe in myself, it made me talk to people that I could never do before.

“It saved my life, to be honest.”

Grow Well have been working in partnership with Cardiff & Vale Health Charity with funding from NHS Charities Together since 2021, and their social prescribing project has been a huge success.

Congratulations to the Grow Well team, Grow Cardiff, and Riverside Health Centre colleagues on being shortlisted for the award.
