CF61 joins the celebrations for The Great Get Together 2021

More in Common Llantwit are planning a weekend of activity, including a Saturday morning of activities at CF61 in Llantwit Major.

The Great Get Together is a UK wide initiative, which is all about bringing communities together and helping people within communities to feel more connected. This year it is being celebrated over the weekend of Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th of June, and aims to bring communities back together and celebrate community spirit, after what has been a year of social isolation for many.

Now in its fifth year, the weekend is part of the legacy of Jo Cox MP, who was murdered in 2016, and who championed the belief that we have ‘far more in common than that which divides us’. Running every summer since 2017, an increasing amount of people are getting involved, and thousands of events are happening across the UK this year.

This year Great Get Together Llantwit Major’s flagship event will take place at CF61, on Saturday the 19th of June, between 10am and 1pm. It will include:

  •  Chatty Café – chance for free cuppa and a chat with others from within your community. There will be two sittings at 10:30am to 11:30am and at 11:45am to 12:45pm, and online booking is advised as spaces are limited due to Covid-safe practice.

  • An outside Seed and Plant Swap stall, in conjunction with Plant Llantwit.

  • An outside Chatty Book Corner, where you can bring, grab or swap a book, inspired by the Chatty Book Club that has been running online throughout the last year.

Llantwit Major Local History Society have also curated a quiz for the weekend, called the Love Llantwit Quiz, which will be available on Facebook and Twitter, as well as in hard copy at the Chatty Café.

Great Get Together Llantwit Major is run by Wales’ first More in Common group of volunteers and is a free event where all are welcome. However, donations are welcome and will be used to fund future local More in Common events and the monthly Chatty Café.
