Catch-up clinic for children who missed HPV vaccine

Children who missed their first dose of the HPV vaccine can now attend a special catch-up clinic later this month.

Girls and boys aged 12 and 13 years old are offered the human papillomarvirus (HPV) vaccine as part of the NHS vaccination programme.

It helps protect against cancers caused by HPV, including cervical cancer, some head and neck cancers and some cancers of the anal and genital areas. It also helps protect against genital warts.

Every year the vaccination is given to Year 8 pupils within their secondary school, but inevitably some children will miss the appointment.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is organising a special HPV vaccine catch-up clinic - by appointment only – at St David’s Hospital Conference Room, Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, CF11 9XB on Tuesday, August 15 between 1.15pm and 3pm.

These appointments are available to any children in Year 8 to Year 11 (inclusive). Please call 02920 907661/664 to make a booking.

For more information on all the vaccines children receive in Years 7 to 11 and why, please go here.
