Bro Radio Picks up Silver at top Radio Awards
The Vale's local radio station, Bro Radio picked up Silver at the 'radio Oscars' in London on Tuesday.
Judged by a panel of experts, and organised by The Radio Academy, the ARIAS are the biggest awards in the UK for radio and audio production.
The event was hosted by Rylan Clarke and Fleur East and held at London's Theatre Royal Dury Lane, which was filled with the very best of the UK Radio industry.
During the evening, Bro Radio picked up a Silver in the newly created Community Station of the Year category, alongside tough competition from the best community stations in the UK.
The station’s entry featured its coverage of key events of last year, including the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, 2022 local council elections, Barry Island Festival of Food, members of its weekly youth club and various contributions from members of the community during its annual Love the Vale Day, all of which is delivered by a team of 45 volunteers who live and love the Vale of Glamorgan.
Operations Director Nathan Spackman said "I'm so proud of our team - this award is recognition for the incredible work they do on and off air in our community."
"I'm delighted to see the Radio Academy recognising the work of the 350+ community radio stations like ours, who each do a brilliant job in serving their local area."
"This recognition wouldn't be possible without the input of volunteers Luke Davies, Chloe Monaghan and Jamie Pritchard, who worked to pull together our entry and I'd like to thank them for all of their hard work in getting us this Award."
Bro Radio is available from 98.1 - 106.1fm across most of the Vale of Glamorgan, online and via mobile apps, with plans to launch on DAB in 2023.
