Boosting Nature - are you able to help someone who wants to volunteer?

This is a flexible opportunity for volunteers aged 18+. The project is a joint initiative alongside our sister charity Innovate Trust, which aims to pair adults with learning disabilities and SVC volunteers so that together they can access mainstream environmental volunteering opportunities in the community. The initiative aims to help open the volunteering landscape for people with additional needs who want to volunteer but struggle to find suitable projects with the required support. Opportunities will mainly take place outdoors and include volunteering with Valeways, the Cardiff Conservation Volunteers and Cardiff Rivers Group.

Role:

  • You will be paired with a person with a learning disability who would like to start volunteering but faces barriers to doing so

  • We’ll help you and the beneficiary to choose an environmental volunteering opportunity that suits your shared availability and interests

  • You’ll volunteer for three months together, after which you can choose to continue for an agreed length of time or finish volunteering

  • Ideally, we would like SVC volunteers to travel with beneficiaries to their volunteering as this can be a big barrier for people

  • Comprehensive training will be provided and you’ll be well supported by the SVC and Innovate teams!

Skills and Volunteering Cymru (SVC) is an independent, volunteer-led charity based in Cardiff. Our projects cover South Wales and work with the homeless, children and young people, those with disabilities, and the environment. We want volunteering to be a part of everyday life in Cardiff and surrounding areas, where all members of our community have the opportunity to give a little, and gain a lot!

Time commitment: A suggested weekly time commitment is 2 – 3 for a longer term of 3 months.
Training: Full training will be provided.
Expenses reimbursed: Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
