Our Benefits Advice Service is here to support people affected by cancer to understand their entitlements to financial and practical support. Our team of expert Benefits Advisors can assess what help is available and guide individuals through the complex benefits system.

We look at the whole circumstances surrounding someone’s personal and financial situation and advise in detail about how to make relevant claims. We can also help with applications, and advise on challenging benefits decisions or with help progressing claims where necessary. The team also play an important role in understanding what issues are affecting people affected by cancer; whether that is at a local or national level, and contributing to campaigns for change.

This is a research and policy based role- Gathering information on how each local authority issues Disabled Parking Badges for people affected by cancer, including those with an end of life prognosis.

Where will I be based?:  This role will be virtual, using your own IT and telephone equipment.

What will I be doing?

  • Phoning different local authorities to speak with staff in the Blue Badge teams to gather this information

  • Liaising with our Benefits Advisors within Tenovus Cancer Care

  • Collating information into a spreadsheet for our Benefits Advice and Policy staff to use in campaigning for, and influencing change

What skills do I need?

  •   Undertaking research to understand regulations around disabled parking badges

  •  Good attention to detail

  • Good communication

  • Ability to obtain information over the phone

  • IT Skills to input information into a spreadsheet

What support will I be given?

  • Full guidance and support from Advice Services manager to complete the short term project

  • Liaison with our Policy Officer to understand the context of your work

  • Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed

Time commitment: This role is flexible, ideally it would be a one off short term project, eg over 3 full days or a few hours a day for a few weeks. Please state what you can do on your application.
Training provided: Full training is provided. Full guidance and support from Advice Services manager to complete the short term project. Liaison with our Policy Officer to understand the context of your work.
Expenses reimbursed: Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
