ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WALES GRANTS

Volunteering is one of the national wellbeing indicators tracking Wales’ progress against the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act goals.

The Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015) aims to improve the way that Wales achieves economic, social, environmental and cultural Well-being.

Through funding organisations to support and train individuals in quality volunteering opportunities, volunteering has an immediate and long-term positive impact on the individual and community. Nationally, volunteers are vital for the delivery of voluntary organisations’ missions and values.

HELPING BOTH THE COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEERS

Previous projects have achieved significant results, not only benefitting the community but improving the wellbeing of volunteers and helping them develop their skills.

One volunteer with the Welsh Refugee Council told us:

‘Volunteering at the Welsh Refugee Council has been an invaluable experience. It allowed me to assist with research projects and create content for newsletters that inform the public about the challenges faced by asylum seekers and refugees, and how they can help.’

‘This role has given me the opportunity to actively contribute to making Wales a Nation of Sanctuary while also allowing me to develop new skills within an organisational setting.’

North East Wales Mind used the grant to hire a Volunteer Co-ordinator to enhance the experience of their volunteers and encourage more people to get involved. One of their volunteers said:

‘Volunteering has been a great experience for me and has helped to rebuild my confidence and self-esteem. It has also enabled me to improve my social skills and is rewarding, I feel like I’ve done something worthwhile and contributed to the wellbeing of others.’
