Walk-in COVID-19 Spring Boosters now available to eligible people at Mass Vaccination Centres
People who are eligible for the COVID-19 Spring Booster but have not received it can now walk into one of Cardiff and Vale UHB’s Mass Vaccination Centres.
The programme, which started on April 2 and will run until June 30, aims to offer additional protection to the most vulnerable people in Wales.
Those eligible for the COVID-19 Spring Booster include:
· adults aged 75 and over
· residents in care homes for older adults, and
· individuals aged 6 months and over who have a weakened immune system.
All eligible individuals should have received an invite for the vaccination via a personal letter to their home address. However, those who have still not received the booster can now walk into one of the Health Board’s Mass Vaccination Centres without an appointment.
The Mass Vaccination Centres are located at Rookwood Hospital, Llandaff, CF5 2YN (open seven days a week, 9am-6pm) and Barry Hospital, CF62 8YH (open Saturdays only, 9am-6pm).
If you have been invited for a vaccination via letter and are unable to make the appointment, please call the Mass Vaccination call centre on 02921 841234 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, with the exception of bank holidays.
Vaccinations remain the best line of defence against serious illness from COVID-19. Protection reduces over time, so it’s important to stay up to date with your vaccinations if you are eligible.
More information about the Spring Booster vaccination can be found on the Public Health Wales website here.
Both Mass Vaccination Centres are also open to adults and children for MMR vaccination walk-ins. There are currently measles cases in Gwent and public health experts fear it could spread to Cardiff and the Vale.
Measles is one of the most infectious diseases in the world and it can cause a range of serious complications in unvaccinated people, particularly children.
Call the Local Child Health Team on 02921 836926 or 02921 836929 to check if your child has already been vaccinated. It is never too late to catch up on missed doses.
