Walk-in clinics created for children who missed first HPV vaccine

Children who missed their first dose of the HPV vaccine in school will be able to attend a special walk-in clinic.

Girls and boys aged 12 and 13 years old are offered the human papillomarvirus (HPV) vaccine as part of the NHS vaccination programme.

It helps protect against cancers caused by HPV, including cervical cancer, some head and neck cancers and some cancers of the anal and genital areas. It also helps protect against genital warts.

Every year the vaccination is given to Year 8 pupils within their secondary school, but inevitably some children will miss the appointment.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is organising special HPV vaccine walk-clinics on Monday, July 24 at the following locations:

  • Woodland House Mass Vaccination Centre (MVC), Maes Y Coed Road, Cardiff, CF14 4HH from 9am-12pm

  • Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, Barry, CF62 8YH from 9am to 12pm

These clinics are open to any school-aged children in Years 8, 9 10 or 11 who missed their first dose HPV vaccination when it was offered.

For further information, or if you’re not sure if your child has received the vaccine, please contact the immunisation team on 02920 907661 or 02920 907664.
