Volunteer for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association

As an Association Visitor aged 18+ you get to see first-hand the impact you have on a family's life.  Due to the nature of the disease and its fast progression it easy to see why volunteers are so vital in supporting people affected by this devastating disease. With your help we can recognise and represent the diverse needs of people affected by MND.

“Due to the nature of the disease, fast progression and lack of knowledge in the general public, these people really need a friend to talk to and someone to point them in the right direction for help and support and I love being able to provide this”

Association Visitors play a vital, valued and unique role in helping us to ensure people with MND and their families receive the support and services they require.

  • Do you have good listening skills?

  • Are you a good communicator?

  • Would you like to offer direct support to people affected by motor neurone disease?

  • Are you aged 18+?

Then you could become an Association Visitor!

Association Visitors (AVs) perform a vital role in supporting people affected by motor neurone disease – both those with the disease and those close to them. They offer emotional support, helping people to make informed choices, access appropriate services/support and explain to people how the MND Association can support them.

All our Visitors are volunteers who have undergone a thorough training programme. They are based in the local community as members of a team and usually have contact with people over the phone, via e-mail or will visit them in their own home.

Time commitment:  A suggested weekly time commitment would be two - four hours. This will vary from person to person. As the role involves working with individuals whose needs will often change over time it is difficult to be prescriptive so a degree of flexibility is required.
Expenses reimbursed: All out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
Training:  Full training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
