Volunteer at the Benthyg project in Barry

Why buy when you can borrow? Benthyg (pronounced ben-thig) is a welsh word meaning borrow or lend.  Volunteers must be aged 18+ to help with either of these volunteering opportunities.

Delivery and Facilitator Volunteer

  • Use the Benthyg Barry e-cargo bike to deliver items

  • Check out/in items as they are delivered or collected

  • Carry verbal check in & check out processes on members’ doorsteps

Data Administrator

  • Review and maintain records of items as they are donated, borrowed and returned

  • Process all paper records into digital records

  • Review and maintain membership database and highlighting trends – location, borrowing habits etc.

Repair and Maintenance Volunteer

  • Undertake repairs and maintenance of the library items

  • PAT test electrical items (free training provided)

  • Update the online borrowing platform with PAT testing and maintenance that is scheduled or completed

  • Test donated items before they are added to the library for borrowing

For this role volunteers need to have basic DIY maintenance experience.  It would ideally suit someone who has worked as a handyman, electrician etc. who is familiar with maintaining small electrical and mechanical items.  No formal skill required, we will provide PAT training for this role.

Time commitment: Time commitment will vary depending upon the opportunity, negotiable with the organisation
Expenses reimbursed: Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse a travel expense.
Training:  Full training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion and 2 references.
