Vale of Glamorgan Community Hack events
Arranged by Creative Communities, these events will bring people together to develop fresh ideas to tackle the effects of the Cost of Living crisis and other social challenges that we all care about. You don’t need to have any experience of running a new project or social enterprise, just a passion to make a difference and the drive to work with others to start a new project from scratch.
During the event, you will learn the basics of setting up a sustainable venture or project, including building on your strengths and the strengths in your community, creating new ideas, applying for funding, generating income, working with different groups, and how to test your ideas. You will also find out about the Shared Prosperity Fund, and other funds, and how you can apply for funding for your idea.
The event will culminate with a final pitch event to a judging panel. This is not a competition, but if you are serious about taking your idea forward, there is business support available for individuals, community groups, ideas stage start-ups and established social businesses.
Please join us for one full day, or split your time by attending two evening events instead.
Who is it for?
These events are for everyone in the community who wants to make a difference! Come with an open mind, be a team player, and work with others to get some fresh ideas created. Sign up with friends, neighbours, your community group or organisation, or come along and join a team.
Areas for fresh ideas
We will be looking for ideas to address:
• Cost of living crisis
• Pockets of persistent inequality
• Economic opportunities
• Health and well-being
• Reducing emissions and switching to Net Zero
• Locally significant sectors and jobs
• Consideration for the context of the rural population
We will be looking for you to come up with fresh ideas for projects, partnerships, and social enterprises to address these issues. But if there is a different social issue that you have ideas for then please tell us about it. You can join as a team or join with others with the same interest.
Why is it called a Community Hack?
The “Hack” is about this being a one-day event to come up with new ideas and the “Community” part is about doing good in the community through sustainable projects.
How much does it cost?
The event is free. There will be tea and coffee throughout the day and lunch will be provided.
Do I have to attend all day?
In a word, yes. You will be part of a team coming up with fresh ideas for new ventures, projects, and partnerships. Your team will be working together throughout the day on new ideas.
