Carers UK The State of Caring 2021 Survey is now open to help Carers UK build a picture of what life is like for carers. If you are an unpaid carers (or former unpaid carer) who are looking after a disabled, older or seriously ill relative or friend you can complete the survey here. The survey will close on 13th September, Carers UK will then release a research report in November.
The RNID have launched a new befriending service open to anybody in Wales who is deaf or has a hearing loss who would like to have a regular chat, or receive letters, from a trained volunteer. It’s aimed at those who are feeling lonely or who are socially isolated and the RNID are able to offer a series of ten befriending sessions. At the moment the RNID are offering phone calls or letters but hope to be able to offer face-to-face befriending in the near future (when circumstances allow). Anybody who would like to register themselves or somebody else for the service can email livewell.cymru@rnid.org.uk to request the referral form. For more information please see the leaflet attached.
The Older People’s Commissioner has recently published the Accessing Health Services in Wales: Transport Issues and Barriers report. The report sets out the findings of research into older people’s experiences of accessing health services in Wales and the difficulties they often face due to issues relating to transport. Over the summer Cardiff Bus have been running a ‘Flyer Bus’ that runs from Barry Island to Cardiff Bay. The service runs from several stops in Barry including the Island sea front. The service is an interesting route that takes an hour and will continue to run daily until the end of the month. To see the Island Flyer timetable please click here. The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Transport consultation on the proposed pedestrian and cycling improvements along Llanmaes Road, Llantwit Major is now live. All the documentation can be found here under the Llanmaes Road heading along with a link to the consultation survey. The consultation is open until the 22nd September.
Home Instead and Re-Engage are launching their new monthly activity groups for people over the age of 75 in the Vale of Glamorgan, on Wednesday 8th September. The free sessions will be hosted each month followed by free tea, coffee and cake. The sessions will run every 4 weeks at 11:30am – 1:30pm at the Sully Sports Club (in the social club), South Road, CF64 5SP.
