Unpaid Carers Short Breaks Grant

In partnership with the Cardiff and Vale Regional Partnership Board and GVS, we are delighted to announce a further funding round for community organisations to provide opportunities for unpaid carers to take short breaks from their caring responsibilities.

We want to hear from third sector organisations who can meaningfully reach a wide number of unpaid carers across Cardiff and the Vale. We are seeking bids that support the 12 key principles for short breaks as detailed in the Carers Trust Road to Respite Report.

The primary aims of the funding are to:

  • Increase availability and access for short breaks for unpaid carers.

  • Provide the option to personalise the type, time, and content/focus the break takes for the unpaid carer.

  • Target unpaid carers who need this the most.

  • Build resilience and sustain the carers caring relationships.

The fund can support two types of activity

  • Activities that are for carers only; activities, events or trips that unpaid carers can access during their short break.

  • Activities that are for the unpaid carer and the person being cared for; a “short break” for unpaid carers may come in the form of having other people to talk to and a change of scenery.

The grant scheme is open to third sector organisations across Cardiff and the Vale and closes 24th January 2025 with the expectation to run a programme of short breaks until 30th March 2025.
