Trustees’ Week 2024

Trustees’ Week runs from 4 – 8 November this year and to celebrate here are some events occurring over the course of the week.

WHAT IS TRUSTEES’ WEEK?

Trustees’ Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight the opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

This year’s theme is Celebrating, Inspiring and Supporting. We will celebrate this week by hosting a series of free online events for trustees (and those who’d like to know more about becoming one) to participate in.

Governance Surgery
4 & 6 November, 5 pm – 7 pm (25/30 minute slots)

This is your opportunity to meet one on one with the Governance Manager of WCVA to discuss any queries you may have regarding your organisation’s governance or your responsibility as a trustee.

Webinar: Data protection law, your obligations, common breaches and how to avoid them
4 November, 11 am – 12 pm

The ICO will share simple steps on how to comply with Data Protection laws and discuss some of the common breaches reported to us from this sector with guidance on how to avoid them.

Trustees Benefit Webinar: An overview for trustees, Hugh James Solicitors
5 November, 1 pm – 1.30 pm

This webinar is aimed at trustees (Committee members, directors etc.) to explain the pitfalls surrounding trustee benefits, what you can claim and be paid for, what you can’t and the changes that have been implemented by the Charities Act 2022. It is delivered by Hugh James Solicitors.

6 November, 11 am – 12 pm

This webinar explains the free services that LawWorks can offer to your organisation

  • An overview of LawWorks, including LawWorks Cymru

  • Advice for your organisation- details of the Not for Profits Programme

  • Sourcing legal advice for your clients – navigating the landscape of free legal advice in Wales

Safeguarding for trustees
7 November, 10 am – 11.30 am

This webinar is aimed at trustees to explain their safeguarding responsibilities.

It will cover:

  • Their duties under the Charity Commission and charity registration

  • The requirements and understanding of safeguarding from the Social Services and Well-Being (Wales) Act

  • Expectations placed upon trustees to lead their organisational safeguarding, sufficient oversight

  • Practical steps to include policies, reporting and training

Conflict of interest webinar: An overview for trustees, Hugh James Solicitors
8 November, 1 pm – 1.30 pm

This webinar is aimed at trustees to explain good practice in reference to conflicts of interest and look at recent Charity Commission Decisions.
