Following our tips will help you to enjoy the Easter period safely and help to ease the pressure on our services so we can take care of those who need it most.
Stock up your first-aid kit
Most minor illnesses and injuries can be treated at home or on the go. Keeping a well-stocked first aid kit on hand can help to treat any minor cuts, scrapes, bumps or illnesses quickly and easily.
Your first aid kit should contain alcohol wipes, plasters, bandages, tweezers, scissors, antiseptic cream, painkillers, and antihistamines amongst other things. This NHS website contains all the information you’ll need for stocking a first aid kid.
Getting away? We’re still here for you.

If you do need to be seen at the Emergency Unit or Minor Injuries Unit
If you, or someone you know experiences an injury or illness over the bank holiday weekend, and you think it needs to be assessed at the Emergency Unit or the Minor Injuries Unit, then please phone first by calling 111.
A call handler will assess your condition and, if appropriate, a CAV 24/7 clinician will call you back. If the clinician thinks that you require further assessment, you will be given a timeslot to attend the most appropriate service.

Drink aware
If you are enjoying the bank holiday with alcohol, it is important to know your limits. It is recommended that adults should not regularly drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week.
Drink alcohol in moderation, keep yourself hydrated and know your limits, this can help to alleviate the immediate risks of heavy drinking.
Staying sun safe
If the weather is on our side for the bank holiday, it is important to stay sun safe.
Use high protection sunscreen, applied liberally to all exposed areas.
Avoid the sun between the hours of 11am – 3pm, this is when it is at its strongest.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeinated drinks.
Cover up with loose-fitting, light-coloured clothes – this can help to keep you cool on hot days. Also, wearing a broad-brimmed hat that helps to protect your head and neck is important.
Look out for others in the sun. The elderly, young children and those with underlying health conditions can be more at risk of experiencing health complications in hot weather.
If you are unsure of your symptoms, check them using the NHS 111 Wales symptom checker or by calling NHS 111 Wales.
