Supporting Young People aged 5 - 18
Volunteers aged 18+ are required to support a young person aged 5-18 who has a learning and/or physical disability, by undertaking a befriending session once a week in order to chat, do activities and play games together.
Main Responsibilities
To contact the young person at least once a week in order to complete sessions
To organise and create fun sessions for you and your young person to complete together
To undertake training and vetting
To book in the sessions with the young person’s parent/carer
To update the SVC Project Coordinator on the progress of your sessions
To inform the young person’s parent/carer if you cannot make a session
To contact the Project Coordinator for reimbursement of an activity/travel costs
Essential
Experience of and the ability to use video call platforms such as Zoom, Jitsi, etc.
Ability and willingness to create fun activity sessions
A good telephone manner
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
Time commitment: Digital sessions: A suggested time commitment is one session of 1-2 hours per week. In-person sessions (when appropriate to do so): A suggested time commitment is one session of 2-3 hours per week.
Expenses reimbursed: Travel expenses, training and activity costs are reimbursed.
Training provided: Full training is provided.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
