Supporting People with Disabilities at the Garden Allotment
The Garden Allotment Volunteer aged 18+ will support the Gardener and the service groups in the general running and maintenance of the allotment; by providing support as guided by the Gardener and the staff; in assisting members of the groups, increasing their participation and skills development whilst working on their allotment.
Activities include:
verbal prompts and guidance
visual demonstration to ensure a group member you work with understands what is expected of them as directed by the Project Gardener, such as digging, preparing the soil for planting, potting on of seedlings to prepared beds, poly tunnels or potting on in the greenhouse, plant care
Activities also include supporting the maintenance of the allotment under the guidance of the Project Gardener and staff running the allotment, trimming, cutting and ensuring equipment is cleaned and stored safely at the end of the day.
You would also escort individuals to access the toilet facilities based in the grounds of the cemetery and to return to the allotment site, no personal care training is required. Verbal prompts may be required to ensure the person maintains their personal hygiene such as hand washing after toilet use and use of sanitisers as per covid guidance before returning to the allotment.
Time commitment: A suggested time commitment is 3- hours per week. Days available are Monday and Tuesday 12:30pm to 3:30pm, Wednesday and Friday 10am – 1pm.
Training: Full training will be provided.
Expenses reimbursed: Unfortunately we are unable to reimburse out of pocket expenses.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
