We are recruiting several paid fixed-term positions to help support the busy portfolio of events at UWC Atlantic during the summer season. If you are aged 19+, enjoy working with young people and are available between June-August this opportunity may be for you!

ABOUT US

UWC Atlantic is based at St Donat’s Castle, South Wales, in a 12th-century castle set in 122 acres of woodland and farmland, with its own valley and seafront. The only UWC College within the UK, UWC Atlantic was established in 1962 and is the founding college of the UWC movement. The college also co-created the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme now widely respected across the world. The UWC movement encompasses 18 global schools and colleges dedicated to uniting cultures and countries through education.

Evolving its mission to impact beyond its 380 annual students, UWC Atlantic provides a range of summer education programmes, focused on various topics but with an ultimate aim to support students to discover their sense of self and purpose in our ever-changing world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This will be a fast paced summer of exciting work as our groups come from all around the world and you will have an opportunity to share your summer with some amazing young people and help to make a real difference in their lives.

You will be provided with accommodation in a shared room, 3 meals per day and a branded uniform (t-shirt and jumper). Full training is provided and the training programme is a compulsory and paid part of the role. You will be provided full training for all aspects of the role including: training for activities you will be leading and supervising, soft skills, health and safety, teaching and safeguarding. 

Rotas of work will be devised between the team and the hours will be from 1800 in the evening until around midnight. At this point, when all guests are asleep you will sleep in the boarding house in a private room. You will be responsible for arranging the wake up and early morning activities from around 0600-0800.

One of the functions of the role is to act as a link between the staff working the day time programme and the guests. Offering ongoing support, pastoral and wellbeing support when needed and general supervision of the residential environment

All successful applicants will receive full training ahead of the programmes as well as ongoing support, monitoring and mentoring to help you develop your skills. Where possible, we will look to accredit training with recognised qualifications.

During your time off you will have access to the college facilities such as the pools and gyms during their operational hours.  There may also be opportunities to join some activities during the days where capacity allows. (e.g. cultural trips and excursions)

Training will commence on Monday 10th July. Accommodation will be available from Sunday 9th July. You will be required to leave your accommodation on Saturday 5th August. You must be available to work during these dates.

Whilst we do not require any previous experience it would be considered advantageous if you have had experience of working with young people, especially in a residential and/or boarding environment. What is essential is that you are willing to learn, have an interest and passion for wanting to see young people achieve their potential through activities and are willing and able to support young people during their stay and be a welcoming part of their household community.
