Show your heart some love this February

February is Heart Month and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are celebrating by highlighting ways you can show your heart some love.

In Wales, heart problems and circulatory disease are a major cause of ill health and death. According to the British Heart Foundation around 39,000 people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan live with heart-related diseases.

A significant number of these problems, including heart attacks and strokes, arise from fatty materials building up in the arteries so they are unable to carry enough blood to the heart and brain.

There are many ways to reduce your risk of developing heart and circulatory diseases.

Here are some healthy changes you can make to show your heart some love:

Lower bad cholesterol

Lose weight around your middle

Check your blood pressure

Quit smoking

Build more exercise into your day
