Response re Mental Health Services in Cardiff

We are aware of some initially inaccurate information which was shared by Mind Cardiff which suggests that funding for Mental Health services has been cut within the Cardiff area.

We appreciate this may cause concern but want to reassure the population that funding is not being withdrawn in the Cardiff area.

The Health Board can confirm that the Tier 0 and Day Services contracts covering the Cardiff region will not be renewed with the current provider Mind Cardiff after 31 March 2025. A tender process has opened to commission a new provider to deliver the day service from 1 April 2025. Tier 0 provision will be advertised shortly with a small gap in provision cover. Provision of day services have been assessed and will be covered across Cardiff with another current Provider.

As part of our scrutiny when commissioning services, the Health Board reviews contracts to ensure they are delivering value for money, the contract terms are being met, and the provider is delivering the services and support required for the local population.

Cardiff Mind are still contracted to provide the services until 31 March 2025 and we are working quickly to ensure a rapid turnaround so Cardiff residents should not be disadvantaged during this time, while a new provider is commissioned.
