Renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon Indu Deglurkar Honored by Learned Society of Wales

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is delighted to announce Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Indu Deglurkar has been named a fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

The Learned Society of Wales is a distinguished body that champions academic excellence and fosters research and scholarship across various disciplines. Professor Deglurkar’s fellowship is a testament to her remarkable career and unwavering dedication to advancing the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Indu has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board since 2010 and performs a wide range of highly complex adult cardiac surgeries. She has a special interest in Aortic surgery, high risk surgery in the elderly, and a niche interest in heart surgery in patients with severe learning difficulties.

On her achievements, Indu said, “I am absolutely delighted and feel honoured to receive this recognition. The opportunity to interact with Fellows from all walks of life is truly exciting and I look forward to learning and contributing to the work of the Learned Society".

Election to Fellowship is a public recognition of academic excellence. Indu Deglukar’s contributions are not only shaping the future of cardiac surgery but also inspiring the next generation of women in the field.

Indu has also been recently named as the Committee Chair for Women In Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (WiCTC). As part of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, the WiCTC champions the role of women in cardiothoracic surgery and to inspire more women to pursue surgical careers.

Alongside Professor Deglurkar, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are delighted to have two further colleagues listed as fellows with the Learned Society of Wales. Consultant Oncoplastic Surgeon, Sumit Goyal, and Consultant Cardiologist Peter Groves have also achieved this prestigious honour.
