Official inauguration of new Adult and Paediatric Trauma Clinics

August 11th 2023 marks the official opening of two new specialised trauma clinics for adult and paediatric patients at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).

The bespoke, purpose-built facilities situated at Lakeside Wing and within the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital of Wales will deliver high-quality orthopaedic, spinal and complex trauma care to up to 35,000 patients a year.

The relocation is expected to have a positive impact on improving waiting times for trauma patients and will facilitate more streamlined clinical pathways. It also marks an important milestone for Elective Orthopaedics as the Cardiff and Vale Orthopaedic Centre (CAVOC) outpatients department at University Hospital Llandough (UHL) returns to full capacity to help tackle the elective wait lists.

In honour of this key milestone, Chief Executive Officer, Suzanne Rankin was joined by colleagues and visitors in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and plaque unveiling.

Guests attending the event were also provided with a guided tour of the new facilities by Clinical Director, Khitish Mohanty and General Manager for Trauma, Orthopaedics, Spines and Breast, Antonio Riccioli.
