Maternity Visiting Guidance Updated

Following risk assessments in line with Welsh Government guidance, we are now able to increase our visiting hours on our maternity wards. Visiting will now be allowed for 4-hour periods either 9am-1pm or 2pm-6pm. The timeslot will be assigned upon admission to the ward. We would like to remind families that the visitor should continue to be the same person as the birthing partner, and we remain unable to allow any children into the maternity unit at this time.

We are also pleased to relax our guidance on partners attending antenatal appointments. From Tuesday 19th April 2022, one person will be able to attend all antenatal clinic appointments and scans. We will ask the accompanying person to wait outside of the unit until called in to be seen. This is due to limited space within the waiting area as the guidance for social distancing remains in place.

All partners/visitors to the maternity unit must wear a face covering whilst within the hospital building, unless unable to do so due to a medical exemption. We would also ask that if any partners test positive for COVID-19 or are showing symptoms, they must not attend the appointment.

At this time, we apologise we are unable to adjust the one birthing partner restriction. This is being regularly reviewed in line with guidance. We kindly ask that women and birthing people who need to attend the Obstetric Assessment Unit attend alone initially due to extremely limited space within the waiting area on the upper ground maternity floor.

Read our current guidance on our maternity page.
