Keeping Safe This Halloween

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s important to look out for not just ghouls and ghosts, but also for yours and other’s health and wellbeing.

Be safe of any avoidable healthcare scares with our safety advice below:

Ghost-hunting and outdoor activities

As temperatures drop in Cardiff and the Vale, keep warm while you explore ghoulish woods or haunted houses with family and friends.

Wrap-up with layers, which will help to conserve your body heat best, including gloves and a hat to protect your extremities which lose heat the quickest.

When out, take flasks of hot drink with you to not only stay warm, but hydrated. Healthy snacks will also help to keep you fuelled and warm when in the cold.

Pumpkin Carving

If you’re spending your evening carving out pumpkins to turn into Jack-o-Lanterns for Halloween, be extra careful when handling sharp objects.

Trick-or-Treating

Whether you’re a young ghost or an adult ghoul, think of fun and healthy ways to dish out treats this year such as pieces of fruit to go in with the mix. You can also use the left-overs from the pumpkin carving to make delicious and healthy soups.

If you eat something over Halloween and feel unwell, be sure to reach out to NHS 111 to check your symptoms as a first point of call.

Costumes and face paint

Take extra care with dressing-up this Halloween as some may be highly flammable, so be sure to avoid naked flames.

With face-paint and other makeup, be sure to test this on a small patch of skin first in case of allergies, if you are unsure, to avoid any reactions.
