Health Board trio featured in Pinc List 2021

Three members of staff at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have been recognised in the Pinc List 2021.

Lisa Cordery-Bruce, Sophie Quinney and Darren Cousins all feature in the annual list, which recognises and celebrates Wales' most influential LGBTQ+ people

Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, Lisa is an ardent supporter of equality development in nursing, and is a proud champion of young LGBTQ+ people in Wales and their inclusion in wider youth activities.

A member of the newly relaunched LGBTQ+ staff network, Lisa has played a key role in highlighting the importance of pronouns through helping to introduce them on Health Board ID badges and encouraging colleagues at all levels of the Health Board to include pronouns on email signatures. This year, Lisa also sat on the ‘Expert Panel’ for the Welsh Government LGBTQ+ Action Plan and has joined Pride Cymru as a trustee.

Dr Sophie Quinney was the first GP to specialise in gender identity medicine in Wales, and is a Gender Specialist in the Welsh Gender Service, hosted by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Dedicated to trans issues, Sophie has developed training modules on transgender healthcare for Welsh doctors, trains GPs across Wales to ensure that trans patients receive equitable care, and voluntarily supports delivering healthcare to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers who are fleeing persecution.

Dr Darren Cousins has been fundamental to making PrEP mainstream in sexual health services, increasing uptake and capacity within the Health Board’s Sexual Health Service despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Through redesigning the service, Darren has made PrEP available to more men more quickly. He is also centrally involved in further new initiatives to make treatments for HIV more accessible for people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Professor Stuart Walker, Interim Chief Executive for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, said: “I am incredibly proud of Lisa, Sophie and Darren’s contribution to the LGBTQ+ community in Wales, as highlighted by their inclusion on this year’s Pinc List.

“As a Health Board we are committed to supporting LGBTQ+ patients, colleagues and the wider community, and I would like to thank staff across our organisation like Lisa, Sophie and Darren who are inputting into this every day.”
