Health and Social Care Committee update

Please see below update on the Health and Social Care Committee’s work so far this year, and what is coming up in March.

 Mental Health Inequalities

We’re currently calling for evidence to inform our work on mental health inequalities. Everyone is welcome to share their views - the closing date for written submissions is Thursday 24 February.

We’ll start taking oral evidence later this term.

Scrutiny of the Welsh Government Draft Budget 2022-23

We scrutinised the Welsh Government Draft Budget on 13 January 2022, and published our report on 4 February 2022.

The Senedd debated the draft budget on 8 February 2022 (See the transcript, watch back on senedd.tv, or read a media release summarising our views and those of other Senedd committees)

Legislative Consent Memoranda (LCM) for the Health and Care Bill

We have published two reports to inform the legislative consent process for the Health and Care Bill:

The Senedd debated the LCM on 15 February 2022 (see the transcript, watch back on senedd.tv, or find out more about the legislative consent process.)

Legislative Consent Memorandum for the Nationality and Borders Bill

After working with the Children, Young People and Education Committee to gather evidence, we published a report on the Legislative Consent Memorandum for the Nationality and Borders Bill on 15 February 2022. Read the report and find out more about the legislative consent process.

The Senedd debated the LCM on 15 February 2022 (see the transcript, or watch back on senedd.tv)

Hospital discharge and its impact on patient flow through hospitals

We held evidence sessions on our inquiry into hospital discharge and its impact on patient flow through hospitals at our meetings of 27 January, 10 February and 14 February.

We’ll be hearing from the Minister for Health and Social Services and the Deputy Minister for Social Services later this term.

Impact of the waiting times backlog on people in Wales who are waiting for diagnosis or treatment

We finished taking evidence on 10 February 2022 with a session with the Minister for Health and Social Services.

We’re now considering all of the evidence we’ve received, and will publish a report soon. In the meantime, you can read a summary of interviews and focus groups with people in Wales who are waiting for diagnosis or treatment (or who are caring for people who are waiting).

 Women and girls’ health

We’ll be holding a one off session on women and girls’ health on 10 March, exploring the evidence for a women and girls health plan and what it should include.
