Group Volunteer - Helping with Activities and Social Groups
Group Volunteers aged 16+ will help at the singing and social groups or gentle exercise and social groups. They will get involved in supporting staff with the smooth running of the group, helping deliver a safe, uplifting service to the older people who attend the groups.
Through this, the volunteer will help meet the aims of With Music in Mind in improving the lives and quality of lives of older people in the local community, reducing social isolation and loneliness, as well as improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the people who attend the groups.
What’s involved?
Volunteers may be involved in the following activities:
Greeting group members as they arrive
Answering questions and disseminating information
Chatting, initiating conversation with group members - this is a key part of this volunteer role
Supporting general mobility of group members, as needed
Taking part in activities
Preparing and serving hot drinks and snacks
Activities will not include:
Toileting/ personal care
Manual handling
Cooking
Handling money
There is flexibility to tailor this role to suit the individual volunteer, if required.
Social groups take place in Penarth and Barry.
Groups run on:
Tuesday afternoon, 1.30 - 4.00, Penarth
Wednesday morning, 9.30 - 12.30, Penarth
Thursday morning, 10.00 – 1.00, Barry
Friday afternoon, 2.00 – 4.30, Barry

Volunteers have the right to ask for a reference.
Time commitment: Suggested minimum of 3 hours a week, although this is flexible.
Expenses reimbursed: Volunteers will be reimbursed for certain out-of-pocket expenses, including travel costs.
Training provided: Volunteers will be given an induction along with full training. There will be an opportunity for the volunteer to ‘buddy up’ with an experienced staff member, until they feel confident in their role.
Selection procedures: An informal discussion, application form completion and 2 references.
