Funding open for projects benefitting communities & the environment

We are pleased to announce that a new round of the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (LDTCS) is now open for applications.

The Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (LDTCS) funds projects near certain waste transfer stations or landfill sites, with a focus on:

  • biodiversity

  • waste minimisation and the reduction of waste to landfill, and

  • wider environmental enhancements.

The scheme is now open for applications for main grants of between £5,000 – £49,000 and a ‘nationally significant’ project with a value of between £50,000 – £250,000.

If you have a project idea which would benefit the community, check out your eligibility by visiting our website and using the map to see where eligible sites are.

DRIVING POSITIVE CHANGE IN COMMUNITIES

The previous rounds of LDTCS have funded a wide range of inspiring projects, empowering people to take action to improve their local environment.

Gwyrddio Penarth Greening used the funding to establish a Benthyg in Penarth – a Library of Things where people can borrow useful household items at a low cost and donate unwanted ones, diverting them from landfill. This project was the first site in the Benthyg Cymru network which now includes over 25 Libraries of Things around Wales and meets regularly to share learning and best practice.

The project has successfully embedded a borrowing ethos around the wider Penarth community. Since opening, Benthyg Penarth has recorded over 2,400 ‘borrows’, saving the community an estimated £67,000 and 36 tonnes of carbon, and it diverted nearly two tonnes from landfill by taking donations of over 500 household items.

If you want to find out more about the projects we have funded, have a look at the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme Annual report 2023/24.
