Free 3-hour online financial awareness training – and more
Last year saw a short break in the very successful Welsh Government funded project – Dangos – which raises the awareness of financial issues and help for frontline workers in Wales.
This year, another round of Dangos, funded by Welsh Government, is about to start – even bigger and better.
Beginning with the updated basic and intermediate courses, we will also shortly be offering dedicated sessions:
Support for children and young people
Support for older people
Support for those in need of care
The intermediate sessions are designed for people who want a refresher of their existing knowledge and practice. They’re not designed to turn people into advisers but they’re great for people who attended the basic courses or who’ve been working with people in need of support for a while.
Dangos aims to increase the knowledge and awareness about the availability of help for frontline workers. That is people who are in day-to-day contact, whether paid or voluntary, with families who might need extra help.
We aren’t going to try to turn people into benefit experts or advisers in any of the sessions. We just want to give them some more knowledge and information about what help there is and some tips in encouraging people to take up their rights.
Our free online sessions to frontline workers throughout Wales will be starting in March 2025 and continuing into 2026. All sessions will be three-hour long sessions, very interactive and supported by information packs, and, for those who want it, free access to more detailed e-learning courses about the support available in Wales and how it works.
The sessions and the information pack will be provided in Welsh and English, as will some of the eLearning courses. The online sessions will be delivered in Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. The timing and pattern of these courses will be dependent upon demand.
We will also be offering free online courses for groups of staff from the same agencies, between 10 and 20 in each session, and will be ‘tweaking‘ the content of the intermediate sessions for those with a focus on benefits, social care, housing or health care.
The Dangos website gives more details and allows people to register, individually, for sessions. The website is at https://www.dangos.wales and https://www.dangos.cymru .
Recognising how often support schemes are changing, to reflect growing issues, we are also offering ways to provide ongoing help and support.
This includes a forum for all those concerned about financial issues in Wales, which includes brief daily news updates and a place to ask about issues and to share ideas. It’s also where all the Dangos information packs and session slides can be downloaded.
We are asking you to encourage your staff and volunteers, where appropriate, to take part in this important initiative. Just by being a little bit more aware of what help is around and of the type of families who might be able to get it, they can make a big difference to people’s lives.
The refresher element of the intermediate sessions will be particularly useful where staff may not be fully aware of the wide ranging changes that have happened over recent years (and it’s free!).
