Four Cardiff and Vale UHB colleagues feature on this year's Pinc List
We are incredibly proud that four Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB) colleagues have been featured in this year’s Pinc List.
Now in its eighth year, the Pinc List is drawn up by WalesOnline in collaboration with Pride Cymru and recognises LGBTQ+ people in Wales who have done exceptional things for their communities.
This year, the Pinc List received the most nominations ever — and four influential Health Board colleagues are included.
Lisa Cordery-Bruce, a specialist emotional wellbeing nurse who works closely with the Youth Board to support their incredible work, has been featured on the Pinc List for a third year running.
Speaking about Lisa’s extraordinary contributions to the LGBTQ+ community, WalesOnline said: “Lisa is a huge source of support to the LGBT community but her nomination was particularly for her work with young people. She has set up and run LGBT+ groups for different schools across Wales, to educate and encourage LGBT+ acceptance amongst younger people.”
Lisa said: “I feel really honoured to feature on the list again, amongst so many inspirational people. Much of what I do, is done with others. The LGBTQ+ Staff Network work tirelessly in their own time to support inclusion in our Health Board and our equalities team are key in driving change. Inclusion is a team effort so I am very grateful to them.”
As well as featuring on the Pinc List herself, Lisa’s nominee Ellis Peares has also been included as a ‘one to watch’.
15-year-old Ellis is a member of the Health Board’s Youth Board and is passionate about making sure the voices of young LGBTQ+ people are heard. He also successfully ran for Welsh Youth Parliament, having set improving LGBT+ support in schools as the main feature of his manifesto.
Speaking of Ellis’ nomination, Lisa said: “I nominated Ellis for the Pinc List because he such a driven and passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, so I was absolutely over the moon when I saw he had made the list.
“He is a promoter of LGBTQ+ rights for young people in Wales and advocates for LGBTQ+ support in schools. I am very proud of him.”
Dr Darren Cousins, a consultant for Sexual Health and HIV at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, has been included in this year’s Pinc List for his dedication to developing sexual health services for men who have sex with men, with the aim of making healthcare more accessible.
He is also part of the steering group driving Fast Track Cities Cardiff & Vale and is a member of the Wales HIV Action Plan Working Group.
Also named as a Pinc List 'one to watch' is Dr Kate Nambiar, a queer mixed-race transgender doctor who has worked in the NHS since 1999. Having recently moved to Wales, Kate now works at the Welsh Gender Service.
Kate has been recognised in the Pinc List for her work in training and informing other healthcare professionals about trans healthcare and influence in developing the HIV Action Plan for Wales.
