Deafblind UK services

Our Reconnections service supports those with dual sensory loss in reconnecting with their local communities, accessing social opportunities and reducing their isolation. We offer in person support, where I work 1-1 with individuals to increase their confidence, social mobility and access to social opportunities.

This service can be tailored to meet the unique support needs of each person, and the goals set can range from simple to more complex ones, such as building the confidence to visit a local cafe when they please or join a local community group. We also host our own monthly peer support groups as part of this service and are keen to welcome new attendees. I host our Vale of Glamorgan social group every third Monday of the month, from 1:30-3:30 at Barry Library (please note that our April meeting will be moved to the second Monday of April (14th) as the original date falls on a public holiday).

Vale of Glamorgan Social Group

Being aware of how important social connection is for our overall wellbeing, we are here to help those who may struggle the most with communication and accessing information. It may be the case that someone is unaware of the opportunities available to them or that they are too anxious to leave the house because of their sensory loss, leaving them lonely and isolated.

If you are aware of anyone that would benefit from our support, please make a referral through our website:  https://deafblind.org.uk/make-a-referral/ or by passing their details on to me.  We rely heavily on external referrals to connect us to potential service recipients and would be grateful for your support.

Reconnections service recipients and their carers can also access all of the services offered by Deafblind UK, including our helpline, emotional wellbeing service, a digital/telephone befriending service, accessible technology advice, and our employability service.
