Crafts Volunteer

Our Craft volunteers aged 16+ provide support to staff to deliver craft sessions and support our trainees with learning disabilities develop their craft skills in a nurturing environment.

Our volunteers provide crucial social interaction for our trainees to be able to gain confidence in the project with the focus on sustainability and upcycling waste products to transform them into exciting new items.  You can help with a variety of things including:

  • Devise or find relevant work/activities for students to participate in

  • Observing and supervising

  • Assist trainees with crafting (painting, drawing, sewing & various other crafts)

  • Encourage trainee’s personal confidence and skills development

  • Assist trainees with break times (making of tea/coffee)

  • Other general duties from time to time

Skills required for this role:

  • Good listener

  • Basic knowledge of crafts

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A patient and friendly manner

  • Willingness to learn new skills and participate in a variety of different tasks

  • Willingness to understand trainees needs and abilities

This project focuses on producing gifts and artwork that are kinder to our planet - from recycled handmade paper and seed bombs, to scrap-wool signage, and inner-tube earrings, the possibilities are endless. Day to day activities that are covered in this project include using resin, Batik dyeing, knitting and variety of other techniques, as well as being open to trying new crafting ideas.

Time commitment:  Days available are Monday, Thursday and Friday.  Hours available are 9am - 3pm, flexible and negotiable with the organisation.
Expenses reimbursed:
Travel expenses reimbursed or 40p per mile for cars, and £5 towards lunch.
Training provided:
Full training is provided.
Selection procedure: Informal discussion, application form completion, two references, tour of the project (once references are back), a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation).
