Community Shares Explained – Could they work for you?
All businesses need capital to start, grow and to be sustainable. Community shares are an ideal way for communities to invest in businesses serving a community purpose. Community shares are a way to raise money by offering your community a chance to own shares in your organisation. By buying shares and becoming part owners of a business local people can become supporters, volunteers, customers and advocates for the business.
Community shares can be used to support many different types of businesses such as:
Saving a local pub
Bringing a community building back into use
Setting up a renewable energy scheme
or other service needed by local people
If an enterprise is working for the good of your local area, investment from local people can be invaluable. Community shares can be a great way of match funding projects and demonstrating community engagement to help unlock other sources of funding.
This session will be delivered by Hannah Morris, Business Advisor at the Wales Cooperative Centre.
Attendees will receive a link to join a Zoom meeting on the morning of the event.
